CALIFORNIA WIC PROGRAM

MODERNIZING A STATEWIDE DIGITAL PLATFORM

How I helped multiple organizations align around a scalable digital platform that improved consistency, governance, and long-term maintainability.

THE CHALLENGE

BALANCING STATEWIDE STANDARDS WITH LOCAL NEEDS

The California WIC Program supports millions of women, infants, and children through a network of regional agencies across the state. Each organization had unique operational needs, but the public expected one consistent experience.

The challenge wasn’t simply building another website. It was designing a digital platform that allowed local organizations to manage their own content while maintaining statewide standards for usability, governance, and accessibility.

My Role

DESIGNING A PLATFORM BUILT TO SCALE

Working closely with stakeholders, I helped define the information architecture, governance model, and content strategy that balanced consistency with flexibility.

My responsibilities included:

Rather than solving today’s problem, the goal was building a foundation capable of supporting future needs without requiring constant redevelopment.

The Outcome

A PLATFORM THAT COULD GROW WITH THE ORGANIZATION

The new platform provided a consistent experience across participating organizations while giving local teams the flexibility they needed to manage their own information.

The ResulT Was:

Instead of managing dozens of disconnected experiences, the organization gained a shared foundation that reduced complexity while improving long-term sustainability.

WHY IT MATTERED

Technology doesn’t create consistency. Good architecture does. The most successful transformation projects aren’t defined by the software they use. They’re defined by how well they bring together people, processes, and technology to solve problems that continue long after the project is complete.

EVERY ORGANIZATION REACHES A POINT WHERE ITS SYSTEMS NEED TO EVOLVE.

Whether you’re modernizing legacy platforms, improving governance, or aligning multiple stakeholders around a common vision, I’d love to learn more about the challenges you’re solving.
